05 Sep Mel vs. Food
Hi everyone, this is Melissa, the main writer’s other half, guest blogging today. Recently I have started watching my calorie intake because I’ve put on a few pounds since the wedding. My friends have called it “happy weight,” but I call it, “I-have-to-jump-up-and-down-to-put-my-skinny-jeans-on weight.” I downloaded a calorie counting app for my iPhone, and apparently to reach my goal weight, I can only eat 1200 calories a day! This had not been an EASY task by any means… In fact I have gone over everyday so far! I thought to myself, Today will be different! Here is how it went…
I started off with a light breakfast of half a cinnamon raisin bagel with fat free cream cheese and a glass of skim milk: 270 calories.
After running some errands, of course I was STARVING and I ran out of time to cook, so we decided to getMcDonalds! I had all the intentions of ordering a Cheeseburger Happy Meal (approximately 450 calories), but since it was Touchdown Tuesday, they were running a special: buy an Extra Large Quarter Pounder with Cheese Meal and get one Quarter Pounder free… What a deal! So as I was eating the last bite of my deliciously fatty burger and ketchup ladened fries, I looked up the nutrition facts: 890 calories! Well that put me a bit behind, and with dinner still left to go, it seemed like a lost cause.
Dinner was at Cattle Company, again not the healthiest choice, but it was my dad’s pick. I normally always eat prime rib there because it is THE BEST, but going into dinner I technically only had 40 calories left for the day. Looking through the menu, I saw grilled shrimp and thought, Must be better than 8 oz. of au jus drenched red meat! Little did I know, this also came with a choice of side dishes, so I ordered salad and steak soup. By the time I had a piece of molasses bread and slice of steak quesadilla, and finished the salad that was on a plate the size of my head, I knew there was no way I could eat my actual entree. The steak soup came and I told the waitress to box my shrimp to go.
My calorie count for this meal was up to 500, and I really should have stopped there… but if you know me, you know I am a sucker for sweets, and the seasonal dessert was a sugar cookie topped with mixed berries and vanilla Haagen daz! I was already about 450 calories over for the day so I said, screw it, let’s have one! Boy was I in heaven! We were supposed to SHARE the dessert 3 ways, but I think I ate about two thirds of it myself… Oh well, there is always tomorrow!
